Presidents Report Term 3 2010

Well here we go into Term 3.  We had all better wrap up well as usually the bad weather is just around the corner.

It was incredibly busy at the Centre over the school holidays.  Our horses were all out in their holiday paddocks enjoying the break while the CCC erected the internal fencing through the remaining paddocks so we have a secure area to put our horses into for Term 3.  This was no easy feat getting this completed for us in record time, so our thanks go out to them.

On Friday the 2nd July Maree Mackle and I attended the submissions hearings for Canterbury Agricultural Park and I spoke on behalf of CRDA.  The Board was made up of CCC officers and MPs.   They were very understanding of our submissions and I felt that they were well received, so now we wait for the outcome.  I will keep you posted in the next newsletter.

The committee has been very eager to engage a Physiotherapist for a number of our riders; our coaches are looking for support in this medical area to ensure we are maximising our therapy sessions and what goals we are attaining to.  We will trial Term 3 2010 and Term 1 2011 and this will give us a good indication if it will be feasible and affordable for us to continue.

Jonet Ward and I were invited to attend the Department of Corrections morning tea during which they thanked us, and many more sponsors for taking the time to encourage these young and old people how to give back to their community.  We have had some wonderful people through over the years and many have come back and volunteered their time when their hours have been completed.

It has also become necessary to dig out and fill with shingle the area in front of the feed shed.  This has been on our wish list for nearly four years as it had become extremely muddy and dangerous for the horses, riders and volunteers to walk over.  The latest lot of rain had caused concerns for all of us and it was a great opportunity to get this completed in the school holidays.

Our seven coaches attended the Coaches Clinic in Napier thanks to the grant received by Air Rescue services Ltd and this was a wonderful opportunity for all of us.   Mary Longdon, an internationally recognised dressage and Para equestrian coach put us through our paces by facilitating a number of workshops, theory and practical, on setting and achieving progressive goals for all our riders.  A grateful thank you to Air Rescue Services Ltd.

Amy Adams - Selwyn MP visits CRDA

On Friday, 13th August, Amy Adams (MP for Selwyn) paid a visit to CRDA.

Amy spent over an hour at the centre learning about the role and mission of RDA, and also viewing a session in progress.  Amy is extremely interested in the therapeutic aspect of the programme and very impressed with what we are achieving and continue to strive towards with our riders.

The visit concluded with morning tea in the seminar room allowing Jayne further opportunity to discuss CRDA with Amy.  Overall it was a very successful visit and it is encouraging to know that Amy is supportive of what we are striving to achieve with our centre, and the overall movement of RDA's throughout NZ.
